Charles Leon Abercrombie

Charles Leon Abercrombie, age 65, returned to his Heavenly Father, December 23, 1997 in Bountiful, Utah, after a long courageous battle with colon cancer.

Born September 6, 1932 in Thomasville, Alabama, the sixth child of Joseph Washington Abercrombie and Pernie Mae Chamblee. Married Carole Lee Stanard, August 28, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. Charles served in the Air Force during the Korean War. While in the service, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a missionary in the Great Lakes Mission. He remained active in the church his entire life, serving in the bishopric, as high priest group leader, in a variety of teaching positions, and in genealogy and temple work. He was a High Priest in the Bountiful 31st Ward. His great love was genealogy and temple work and in the last few years he spent much energy and time teaching and sharing his expertise in genealogy with others. He graduated from BYU in 1964 with a major in business management. His life's work was spent as a salesman in a variety of areas, including life insurance, law books, and as a representative for a pharmaceutical company.He is survived by his wife, five daughters and six sons: Carole Lynn Brown (Craig), Bountiful; David, San Jose, CA; Michael (Verlene), Lakewood, WA; Cheryl Lee, Tacoma, WA; Daniel (Pat), St. Johns, Michigan; Deborah Nase, Bountiful; Rebecca Mensing (Mark), Bountiful; John, Bountiful; Joseph, serving a mission in Marseille, France; and Sarah and Stephen, Bountiful; 15 grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters: Ruby Williams and Myrtle Street, both of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mabel and Nell, and one brother, Roy.

Funeral services Saturday, December 27, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Bountiful 31st Ward Chapel, 585 East Center. Friends may call Friday evening from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and again Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment-Lakeview Cemetery.
